ABOUT WATER

A  colorful voyage.

Realistic and imaginary.

The process of catharsis

through art expression.

"ABOUT WATER” is a series of oil paintings I have created within the last few years.

Representational in nature,  my artwork is impasto created with palette knife, a practice I prefer since it allows to capture and convey the feelings  with texture, enhancing  the sensory experience.

Part of what drew me to create these works, besides the magnetism  for water,

was a negative experience that deeply marked me many years ago.

At age 24,  I suffered a boating accident in New York,  fracturing a vertebrae.

With time that healed, and I was fortunate to be mobile.

Yet, other scars remained:  anxiety,  panic attacks and fear that immobilized me in other ways.

Soon after , I moved Florida, where I still live...surrounded by water.

At times, the trauma precipitated out of nowhere; the mere noise of a

faraway jet sky would  trigger  an anxiety attack,  or just the though of

crossing a bridge would make me feel very uneasy.

Fascinated by water  while being that the source of my fears was a sad predicament.

In time  and  gradually,  seascapes, boats, beaches, anything water,

everything  ocean, beach, sand, become my creative energy and with it,  a sense of  serenity.

I’m inside the canvas.

I’m in the water.

I’m at the edge of the palette knife,  the north pixel from the horizon,

the moss on the wet rock and in the barracuda’s cave.

I’m mobile now.

I’m flowing with the water.

I’m water.
